We are so close to Christmas!! I hope you’re as excited as I am!! Today I’m so thrilled to share my favorite free activities at Disney world this holiday season. So many of us are already finished with work and school, and are looking for some fun, inexpensive activities to celebrate the season. Read on below for my top 4 free holiday activities at Disney.

Visit the resorts to take in their Christmas decorations

This is my favorite of the free activities at Disney World! While I love the excitement and magic that the Disney Theme Parks provide, there is something special and unique about the Resorts! It’s hard to describe, but every time I walk through the sliding doors to a Disney Resort, smell the festive scents, hear the peaceful background music, and am greeted by a kind Cast Member, this wave of relaxation falls over me that I can’t describe! I love working, reading a book, and going for walks around the Resorts, especially at Christmas! The decorations are all beautiful and themed to the Resort, the Christmas music is festive and fantastic, and the Christmas-themed snacks are delectable and delicious! My personal favorite places to view the Christmas decorations are Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort!

Make a trip to Disney Springs

There are so many fun, family-friendly, free holiday activities at Disney Springs. First, Disney Springs brings out the iconic “snoap” (fake snow made of soap) falling every evening during the Christmas season. I cannot think of a better way to get in the spirit! Also, Disney Springs is very well known for their live entertainment and performances. As you stroll through Disney Springs, you might encounter some elves on stilts, Christmas-themed dance numbers, or piano performances. I also encourage you to take some time to complete the Christmas Tree Stroll during your visit to Disney Springs. Essentially, you will stop at a select location to pick up your Christmas Tree Stroll map; then you can visit all of the Christmas Tree locations marked on your map to check out a unique, Disney-themed Christmas Tree! Once you realize the theme of the tree, you can place the corresponding themed sticker on the map and move on to the next stop! Once you have stickers on all the trees, you can take advantage of some exclusive deals and discounts. Who doesn’t love that?! Lastly, while you’re at Disney Springs, you have to visit Santa Claus! Disney has figured out how to meet the big guy in the most efficient way possible; once you arrive you can open the My Disney Experience app to join the virtual queue. Then, instead of spending your day standing in line, you can complete your holiday shopping or complete the Christmas Tree Stroll! You’ll be notified when it’s your turn to return to the queue to meet Santa!

Complete a Gingerbread Scavenger Hunt

Did you know that many of the Disney Resorts have giant handmade gingerbread displays? This is another fan-favorite of the free activities at Disney World this holiday season. So far, we’ve found five different resorts that participate. These pastry chefs spend countless hours perfecting a giant gingerbread display, so be sure to check it out! You can also purchase this homemade gingerbread at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, which is absolutely delicious! Grand Floridian was the first resort to participate, and definitely the largest display with a life-size gingerbread house. Other gingerbread displays include Disney’s Contemporary Resort with a stunning gingerbread castle, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, with a homemade gingerbread carousel, and Disney’s Boardwalk Inn with a cozy gingerbread Boardwalk Deli! Lastly, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is taking part in the festivities with an adorable gingerbread giraffe and zebra. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this!

Visit Disney’s Contemporary Resort to watch Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party Fireworks

Grab your spouse and have a Christmas date night at the Contemporary Resort! During select nights, you can catch the Christmas Party Fireworks from the bridge between Disney’s Contemporary Resort & Bay Lake Tower. This resort truly gets in the spirit by playing the firework soundtrack so you can get a spectacular, fully immersive view of this festive fireworks display! I definitely recommend getting to the Resort well in advance (I try to be in my viewing location an hour prior to the fireworks show), to ensure you have a great view. My husband and I love to grab Steakhouse 71 menu items to-go and head to the observation bridge to enjoy a meal while we wait for the show!

Bonus honorable mention: visit Celebration

Lastly, I cannot talk about free activities at Disney World this holiday season without mentioning the town that Disney built, Celebration! This is technically off-property, so you will need to drive or ride-share, but it’s definitely worth a visit! Celebration puts on an amazing Christmas display the entire holiday season, complete with “snoap”, ice-skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and some incredible Christmas lights. There are also holiday shopping locations, and tons of restaurants and ice-cream you can pay for during your visit! The Christmas spirit is alive and well in Celebration, and you truly won’t want to miss out on this festive display!

Conclusion

There you have it, my favorite free activities at Disney World this holiday season! There’s an abundance of free holiday activities at Disney to help you and your loved ones get in the holiday spirit. Have you tried any of these activities? Let me know in the comments what your favorite is! Wishing you and your family a festive, very merry Christmas!
